NJUCM's Materials Science Discipline Enters the ESI Global Top 1%

On January 8, 2026, Clarivate Analytics released the latest update of the Essential Science Indicators (ESI). According to the data, the Materials Science discipline of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) has, for the first time, entered the global top 1% in ESI rankings.


With this new achievement, NJUCM now has 9 disciplines ranked among the ESI Global Top 1%, taking the lead among universities of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in China. These nine disciplines are: Pharmacology & Toxicology, Clinical Medicine, Chemistry, Biology & Biochemistry, Neuroscience & Behavior, Molecular Biology & Genetics, Agricultural Sciences, Immunology, and Materials Science.

Globally, 10,347 institutions have disciplines ranked in the top 1%. NJUCM ranks 1,078th worldwide, improving by 132 places compared to the same period last year, with its global percentile advancing by 2.03%.


This marks the ninth consecutive year that NJUCM has maintained its leading position among universities of traditional Chinese medicine in terms of both global and Chinese Mainland university rankings.

In recent years, NJUCM has been advancing its strategic plan, Discipline Excellence, promoting high-quality development of disciplines through continuous reform of management systems and mechanisms. The university has optimized its disciplinary layout, strengthened coordination among core disciplines, and built an integrated system that features TCM as the foundation, integration of traditional Chinese and Western medicine, interdisciplinary collaboration, and coordinated innovation.


The inclusion of Materials Science in the ESI Global Top 1% marks a new stage in NJUCMs 15th Five-Year Plan for discipline development.
