Secretary Qiao Xuebin Leads Delegation to Germany and Italy to Deepen International Cooperation in TCM

From October 20 to 26, a delegation led by Qiao Xuebin, Party Secretary of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM), visited Germany and Italy to strengthen international exchange and cooperation in the fields of TCM science and technology, education, clinical practice, and cultural exchange. The visit aimed to further expand NJUCMs cooperation network across Europe.


On October 20, the delegation visited the Chinese Embassy in Germany, where they were received by Chen Linhao, Counselor for Science and Technology Affairs. Secretary Qiao Xuebin introduced NJUCMs recent development and reform achievements, emphasizing the universitys willingness to serve as a bridge linking traditional and modern medicine between China and Germany. He noted that the university is committed to contributing Chinese insights and solutions to global health governance through TCM.


Counselor Chen highly praised NJUCMs longstanding efforts in promoting the internationalization of Traditional Chinese Medicine and expressed the embassys full support for enhanced collaboration between the university and German scientific institutions particularly in TCM standardization and evidence-based medicine research.

At Charité Universität**edizin Berlin, Secretary Qiao Xuebin met with Prof. Georg Seifert, Director of Charité Competence Center for Traditional and Integrative Medicine (CCCTIM), and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The two sides agreed to deepen cooperation in medical training, clinical service, scientific innovation, and cultural communication through the bridge of TCM, with the shared goal of improving public health and contributing to a community of common health for humanity. The dialogue also covered topics such as the translation of ancient TCM texts, clinical application and evidence-based research on appropriate TCM techniques, and efficacy and safety evaluation of classical prescriptions. Counselor Chen Linhao attended the ceremony and related activities.

At Dresden International University (DIU), Secretary Qiao Xuebin met with President Antonio Hurtado to discuss specific cooperation measures to improve the quality of Sino-foreign educational programs, enhance high-level talent exchanges, promote research collaboration and innovation, and strengthen cultural understanding.

On October 23, the delegation visited the The Italian Society of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine (SIMFER), Secretary Qiao Xuebin met with Vice President Andrea, President of the City Council of Rome Svetlana, and other representatives. Both sides reached a consensus on establishing a TCM-based sports rehabilitation training system and promoting the application of TCM rehabilitation techniques in Italy. Secretary Qiao noted that the integration of TCM and modern rehabilitation medicine can create more systematic and holistic approaches for patients with chronic illnesses, geriatric conditions, and sports injuries.


Exchange on Sports Rehabilitation


At the Italian Federation of Acupuncture Societies (FISA), Secretary Qiao Xuebin met with President Carlo Maria to exchange views on the clinical promotion and professional training of TCM acupuncture in Italy. He expressed the hope that the two sides could jointly carry out short-term training programs, advance mutual recognition of professional standards, and help TCM services better integrate into the Italian healthcare system. The Italian partners spoke highly of NJUCMs academic influence and agreed to collaborate on the 2026 training plan, gradually promoting joint curriculum development and teacher training. Isabella Conti, member of the Bologna Regional Council, also attended the meeting.


The delegation also visited the Cancer Rehabilitation Center of the University of Bologna, where they learned about the progress of clinical research and practice in acupuncture for cancer rehabilitation including its role in alleviating chemotherapy side effects, regulating immune function, and improving patients quality of life. Both sides reached a preliminary intent to cooperate on multi-center clinical research regarding acupuncture intervention mechani**s.


This visit further consolidated NJUCMs partnerships with institutions in Europe and injected new momentum into promoting the high-quality integration of TCM into the global health system. Representatives from the Office of the CPC Committee, Organization Department, Academic Affairs Office, Department of International Cooperation and Exchange, and the Second Affiliated Hospital accompanied the delegation.
