On August 15, the 2025 Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) by Shanghai Ranking was released, showcasing the world’s top 1,000 universities. Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) ranked 492nd globally and 100th in the Chinese Mainland. Compared with 2024, the university’s global ranking rose by 89 places, and its ranking in the Chinese Mainland by 9 places, securing the No.1 position among traditional Chinese medicine universities in the Chinese Mainland. NJUCM is also the only TCM university in the Chinese Mainland to be listed for six consecutive years.
ARWU is the world’s first comprehensive global university ranking and remains one of the most influential and authoritative. It is widely reported and cited around the globe.
ARWU evaluates universities based entirely on internationally comparable objective indicators and third-party data, including the number of alumni and staff winning Nobel Prizes and Fields Medals, the number of highly cited researchers, publications in Nature and Science, papers indexed in the Science Citation Index-Expanded (SCIE) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI), and per capita academic performance.
Since the launch of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, NJUCM has focused on national strategic priorities and the high-quality development needs of TCM. Guided by its discipline-driven strategy, the university has advanced organized scientific research, strengthened the building of high-level research teams, enhanced scientific innovation capacity, and steadily improved research output. Its academic influence continues to grow.
