NJUCM Confucius Institute at University of Galway Hosted the First Conference of the Global Alliance of Chinese Medicine Confucius Institutes

On December 6, the first Conference of the Global Alliance of Chinese Medicine Confucius Institutes (CMCI) was held in Beijing City University, hosted by CMCI and co-organized by NJUCM Confucius Institute at University of Galway of Chinese Medicine and Regenerative Medicine and Beijing City University. Zhao Lingshan, Vice President and Secretary General of Chinese International Education Foundation, attended the meeting and unveiled the plaque for the alliance. Liu Lin, President of Beijing City University, Somtawin Jaritkhuan, Vice President of Burapha University, Hu Lihong, Vice President of NJUCM, deans of 12 Chinese Medicine Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms from all over the world, as well as representatives of the partner institutions and agencies, participated in the conference.

 

Liu Lin delivered a welcome speech on behalf of the organizer. He congratulated the conference on behalf of Beijing City University, and hoped that the conference would strengthen the exchanges and cooperation among member institutions, and make contributions to the all-round development of the Alliance.

Timothy O'Brien, Chairman of the Alliance and Irish Dean of the Confucius Institute at University of Galway of Chinese Medicine and Regenerative Medicine, introduced the specific work of the Alliance and reviewed the series of activities carried out by the Alliance since its establishment to its official operation. He said that it has built a good platform for strengthening the all-round cooperation of CMCI in teaching, clinical and scientific research of Chinese medicine, and that it will further expand the scope of cooperation and produce more cooperation results in the future.

Zhao Lingshan said in his speech that the conference focused on clinical practice, educational cooperation, scientific research innovation and community service in the field of Chinese medicine on the platform of the Alliance, and actively promote the development of Confucius Institutes in the form of Chinese Language+Chinese Medicine. With the help of the Alliance, all the Chinese Medicine Confucius Institutes will further strengthen the exchange of teaching experience and resource sharing, make use of their respective strengths, and promote the healthy and sustainable development.

Hu Lihong, on behalf of the Chinese partner institutions, said that the Global Chinese Medicine Confucius Institutes and Confucius Classrooms have formed an alliance to integrate resources, seek common development, and build a platform for the world to know and understand traditional Chinese culture and traditional Chinese medicine. More people can understand Chinese medicine and apply it, use it as a bridge to comprehensively promote the vigorous development of international Chinese language education.

Under the support of the Chinese International Education Foundation, the Alliance was established on 18 September 2020 and held its first online meeting. During the three years of operation, the Alliance has carried out fruitful reforms and initiatives in operation mechanis m, website construction, academic exchanges as well as cooperation and research. At present, the members of the Alliance include 16 Chinese Medicine Confucius Institutes and 2 Confucius Classrooms from 15 countries around the world.
