On September 6, the opening ceremony of the 2023 freshmen of NJUCM was held in the gymnasium of Xianlin Campus. Qiao Xuebin, Party Secretary of NJUCM, Cheng Haibo, President of NJUCM, and the university leading group attended the ceremony. Leaders of the colleges, teachers' representatives, college counselors, academic advisors, and 5,740 undergraduates, postgraduates and international students attended the ceremony. The ceremony was simulcast online, and has been viewed more than 20,000 times. The event was hosted by Vice President Xu Shufa.

President Cheng Haibo, on behalf of NJUCM, warmly welcomed all the new students and congratulated them for embarking on the new journey in NJUCM. He told the freshmen about the history of the university enduring great hardships in pioneer work and its outstanding achievements over the past 70 years, and encouraged them to shoulder the responsibility and bearing of contemporary youth.

Wang Shouchuan, National Teaching Master and National Famous Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner, delivered the speech on behalf of university faculties.
Li Yulin, representative of undergraduate students, majoring in nine-year Traditional Chinese Pharmacy of the College of Pharmacy, Song Siyuan, representative of postgraduate students, majoring in Integrative Medicine of Clinical Medicine, and Li Xiaolong, representative of international students, majoring in Acupuncture and Tuina of the International Education College, respectively delivered speeches.
All new students took the solemn oath.
