At the conference, Yu Shuguang, President of Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine recalled the Chengdu Declaration of the World-Class Chinese Medicine University Construction Alliance and reiterated the original intention of the Alliance. Xu Anlong, President of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine and Chairman of the Alliance, gave a report on the theme of Decoding TCM. He pointed out that the Decoding TCM grand scientific plan will focus on modern research on basic theories of TCM, excavation of classical wisdom of TCM, prevention and treatment of major diseases in TCM, equipment and technology of intelligent TCM, innovative R&D of Chinese medicine and preventive treatment of diseases. It is suggested that the members of the Alliance should be the main body to bring together the innovative power of the national TCM institutions and promote organized scientific research to form major research projects in the field of TCM.

The presidents of the participating universities spoke highly of the significance of the implementation of the Decoding TCM scientific plan, and held in-depth discussions on the key scientific issues in the development of Chinese medicine and the institutional system for the implementation of the Decoding TCM plan.

Hu Gang delivered the concluding speech.

In the concluding speech, Hu Gang put forward three suggestions. First, the development of TCM is a long way off, and the solution of major scientific problems in TCM is a matter of urgency, so universities should work together and make long-term efforts to show the new role in achieving scientific and technological self-reliance and self-improvement. Second, members of the Alliance and Chinese medicine universities should further discuss and form a consensus on key scientific issues in TCM, actively lead or participate in relevant research based on their respective advantages and characteristics, and promote the implementation of the Decoding TCM grand scientific plan. Third, members should further strengthen basic research, explain major scientific issues in TCM, strengthen applied transitional research, solve the crucial technological problems in TCM, and promote the high-quality development of the TCM industry.

The meeting was attended by the leaders of six world-class Chinese medicine universities, including Beijing University of Chinese Medicine, Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine and Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and eight Chinese medicine colleges and universities, including Heilongjiang University of Chinese Medicine.
