On July 15, the Opening Ceremony for School of Elderly Care and Management was held at Hanzhongmen campus, NJUCM. Invited officials included Jiangsu Provincial Vice Governor Hu Guangjie, Director Lv Deming and Deputy Director Sha Weiwei from Jiangsu Provincial Department of Civil Affairs, Deputy Director Wang Chengbin from Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education as well as Cheng Chun, Chair of NJUCM Administrative Council, Hu Gang, NJUCM President, and NJUCM Vice Presidents and administrative staff at the newly established school. Lv Deming chaired the opening ceremony.

On behalf of NJUCM, President Hu Gang extended warm welcome to all delegates led by Vice Governor Hu Guangjie, and expressed appreciation for the support and care from the Jiangsu Provincial Government to NJUCM’s development. From aspects of establishing collaboration committee, selecting school administrative staff, setting up disciplinary construction, building up talent team, selecting practice bases, establishing the institute of elderly care and management, Hu Gang elaborated on how NJUCM took the initiative to meet the major development needs of the nation and acted on its Chinese medicine as its advantage to collaborate with Jiangsu Provincial department of Civil Affairs in the joint efforts of building the new school.

Vice Director Wang Chenbin expressed congratulations to the formal establishment of the new school. He hoped that the school will deeply facilitate the fusion of teaching and industry, and would provide powerful support in terms of industrial talent to meet the needs of the national and provincial industrial development and upgrade. As the new school being the first school to provide bachelor degree program in elderly care, he hoped that NJUCM will present its advantages in Chinese medicine and better improve its construction system so as to build up a school with new feature, with higher quality and levels.

With the witness of onsite officials, Vice Governor Hu Guangjie and President Hu Gang jointly opened the plate for the new school. In the future, the university and the provincial government will deepen their collaboration, share resources, and aim at building the school into a cradle and highland of talent in the field of elderly care.

The aging population has become a universal problem facing the economic development of the nation. On October 30,2020, NJUCM signed agreements with the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Civil Affairs to joint build up a school training talents for elderly care industry with bachelor degrees. Currently, the construction work of the new school is in full swing, offering four bachelor degree programs including geratology, elderly care, elderly rehabilitation, elderly service and management. The school has formally started to enroll students for the bachelor and master degree programs. The provincial government and the Department of Civil Affairs will continue to provide extensive support to NJUCM to train high level and professional talents for elderly care industry.
