The School of Traditional Chinese Medicine at NJUCM traces its origins back to 1954, with its earliest teaching and research units established at the founding of the university. It has gone through several stages, including the Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine and the School of Basic Medicine, and was officially renamed the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in November 2023.

 

The school focuses on the development of fundamental and classical disciplines in TCM. It hosts three national key disciplines recognized by the National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. The discipline of TCM, where the school plays a leading role, received an A rating in Chinas fourth national discipline evaluation and has been recognized as an excellent discipline in Jiangsu Provinces key discipline construction program.

 

The school offers a complete education system, covering undergraduate, masters, doctoral, and postdoctoral programs in TCM. It hosts a postdoctoral research station and a first-level doctoral program with four second-level doctoral and masters programs.

 

The school has 118 staff members, including 99 full-time faculty, 98% of whom hold doctoral degrees. It is home to four national TCM master studios and a strong faculty team, including winners of national and provincial teaching honors and talent programs.

 

The school emphasizes student-centered education and offers foundational TCM and classical literature courses across the university. It has received several national and provincial recognitions for its curriculum, including first-rate courses and demonstration courses. It is also a key contributor to the development of national textbooks in TCM.

 

Research is supported by three national-level key disciplines (Formulaology, Cold Damage, and Febrile Diseases), and multiple laboratories at different levels, including the Provincial Laboratory of Febrile Diseases and the National Level-3 Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Febrile Diseases). The school currently leads 81 research projects, including 31 national-level projects.

 

The school actively engages in student innovation competitions and social service projects, having won national awards in programs such as the Challenge Cup and Internet+, and carried out the 100 Villages Health Project benefiting over 80,000 people. It has been recognized as a model team in national volunteer and youth service programs.

 

The schools Party branch has received numerous honors at the national and provincial levels, including National Model Party Branch and Jiangsu Province Benchmark Party Branch. Faculty and staff have been awarded for excellence in Party work and student affairs.

 

The school is also committed to the global development of TCM, regularly participating in international teaching, research, and clinical training programs.
