Nanjing General Hospital
Built in 1929, Nanjing General Hospital was formally the Central Hospital of the China Republic Government. With its long history, it has been developed into a large-scale modernized general hospital with balanced progress in medical service, education and research. The hospital has 4000 staff, covering an area of 1,400 mu, and is equipped with 2000 beds. In 2014, the outpatient department received a total number of 2,310,000 people, included 71,000 inpatients, and has completed 23,100 operations. The hospital sets up 52 departments, boasting of 1 national key discipline, 1 national center of clinical medicine, 1 national clinical trial center, 2 key disciplines of PLA, 4 medical research institutes, 2 key laboratories of PLA, 3 specialized medical departments of PLA, and 8 Jiangsu Provincial key disciplines. The hospital has 2 academicians of Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 Changjiang Scholar, 4 experts elected in national “Millions of Talent” project, 2 Distinguished Scholars for National Natural Science Foundation, 448 on-the-job staff with high academic credentials, 445 experts with high-level professional titles, 532 postgraduates. It has 49 experts receiving the special allowance from government, 17 awarded with the “Ho Leung Ho Lee” prizes as well as titles of “Expert of National Outstanding Contributions”, “Distinguished Scholar of National Natural Science Foundation” etc. The hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art medical facilities, such as the operation robot “Da Vinci”, Dual Source CT, Cyber knife, PET/CT, with a total value of 920,000,000 RMB. Since the 12th Five-Year planning, the hospital has received 51 awards in scientific research from the nation and PLA, of which 2 second prizes of National S&T Progress, 6 first prizes and 28 second prizes of PLA S&T Progress, 126 patents of national level. It has published 114 academic monographs, secured S&T funding of 285,000,000 RMB for a total of 361 research projects, of which there are 2 national “973” projects (as leading institution) and 143 national natural science foundation projects. In 2013, the hospital ranked among the 4th nationally in terms of the total of published papers, 8th nationally for the citation of SCI papers, 14th for outstanding papers. The hospital has 140 experts holding chief or vice chief positions in national or PLA’s professional committees. The hospital has been evaluated as the national top 100 best hospitals, national advanced hospitals, and has been listed in the ranking of China’s best hospital for consecutively 5 years. It research-intensive construction has been set as exemplary built-up cases. The exemplary national hospital figures are Academician Prof. Li Jieshou as “Excellent CPC member dedicated to serve the country and the people”, the Nightingale Award winner Ms. Chen Shengrong.
