Prof. Shen Xu was born in March of 1964, Anhui, China. He is currently a full professor and Dean of School of Medicine and Life Sciences, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, China.
From March, 2001 to October, 2016, he worked as associate professor, full professor and the director of Pharmacology Department III of Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica (SIMM), Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). He got the PhD degree in July of 1995 from SIMM.
From September, 1995 to July, 1997, he worked as a postdoc researcher in Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter, CAS, and then moved to work in Shanghai Tongji University, China. From January 1999 to November, 2001, he pursued his further postdoc research in molecular pharmacology and structural biology in Osaka University of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Japan and Weill Medical College of Cornell University, USA. For over 10 years of experiences in drug discovery field against metabolic diseases, Prof. Shen has made a number of contributions to anti-diabetes and anti-Alzheimer’s disease drug lead compound discovery.
Prof. Shen has published more than 150 peer-review original papers and invited reviews, and obtained 19 patents. He has been granted several potent honorary titles and awards for his contributions in scientific research such as “Shanghai Biophysical Elite” (2011), “Shanghai Outstanding Subject Leader” (2011), “Shanghai leading talent” (2007), the Second Prize of National Natural Science Award (3rd participator) (2007), the First Prize of Debio-CCRF China Award (2007), Excellent Supervisor for Graduate Student of CAS (2006), the National Outstanding Youth (2005), and the First Prize of Shanghai Science and Technology Progress Award (3rd participator) (2004), etc. Prof. Shen is the members of Editorial Board of Journal of Microbes and Infection, Current Traditional Medicine, JSM Enzymology and Protein Science, PPAR Research, and Acta Pharmacologica Sinica.
