Prof. Duan Jin’ao serves as Vice President of NJUCM from 2005 to 2016.
He was previously Dean of Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (1999-2005), deputy director of Science and Research Division in China Pharmaceutical University (1996-1999).
Prof. Duan is currently the director of Chinese Materia Medica Industrialization and Formulae Innovation Medicine Research Center (a joint engineering center by state and local institutions), director of Jiangsu Provincial Chinese Materia Medica Industrialization Innovation Center, director of Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Formulae Research, director of Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Formulae High-tech Research, director of Jiangsu Engineering Center for Blood-Adjusting Formulae Innovation Medicine. He is adjunct professor and distinguished professor for numerous higher education institutions as China Pharmaceutical University, Jiangsu University, Queen's University Belfast, The Institute of Medicinal Plant Development, Shanxi College of TCM, Gansu College of TCM, etc. Prof. Duan is a member of Academic Degree Committee of the State Council, member of the 10th Chinese Pharmacopoeia Committee, council member of China Association of Chinese Medicine, council member of China Society of Natural Resources, chief member of the Professional Committee of Natural Medicine Resources of China Society of Natural Resources. Prof. Duan is referee expert of the National Natural Science Foundation of China research programs, and is also referee expert of State Food and Drug Administration.
Prof. Duan has dedicated to the research of Chinese Materia Medica resources and their industrialization, effective ingredients and prescription incompatibility of formulae. He has presided over the National Key Basic Research Program of China (973 Program) as leading scientist, and has successively completed more than 20 research programs such as National Key Technology Research and Development Program of the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, National Natural Science Foundation of China (key program) and other provincial key projects. Prof. Duan has published 5 books and 440 academic papers, of which 158 papers are included by SCI. He has more than 80 patents, over 50 licensed patents. He has invented 5 new Chinese Medicine drug innovated on the basis of Chinese Material Medica. He has participated in outlining 36 standards for industrial products and manufacturing procedures on national level.
Prof. Duan is the recipient of the Second Class Prize of The State Scientific and Technological Progress Award, the First Class Prize of Natural Science Award and Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Ministry of Education, as well as other 5 awards on provincial levels. He has been awarded State Council Expert for Special Allowance, and has won the honor of National Outstanding Researcher, Jiangsu Provincial Outstanding Researcher. Prof. Duan has been leading excellent research group on different levels in Jiangsu Province.
