Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM) is a university jointly constructed by the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the People’s Republic of China, and entered the national “Double First-class” Construction University and the Jiangsu High-level Construction University in 2017. In 2019, NJUCM became the “Double First-class” Construction University, jointly constructed by Ministry of Education and Jiangsu Province. Established in 1954, NJUCM is one of the earliest established universities of Traditional Chinese Medicine in China. In 1981, the university was approved by the State Council as one of the first-batch institutions granted with the authority to confer master and doctoral degrees and Chinese Internal Medicine became the doctorate-accredited field. In 1995, approved by Ministry of Personnel, the first post-doctoral research station was established. In 1998, NJUCM became the first batch pilot unit for conferring professional doctor and master degree of clinical medicine.
NJUCM now has 3 national key disciplines (first rank), 2 national key (cultivation) disciplines, 4 preponderant disciplines of colleges and universities in Jiangsu Province, 10 key disciplines of Jiangsu Province level, 33 key disciplines of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the P.R.C. Its three major disciplines, Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine have all won A-class disciplines in the Ministry of Education’s fourth evaluation. Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology have been included in the top 1% of Global ESI ranking. It was listed the Best Global University Ranking published by U.S. News in 2017, entered top 200 among Chinese mainland universities of Natural Index Ranking, and Scimago Academic Top 128 Ranking for Chinese Universities in 2018.
Now it boasts 4 doctoral programs (first rank) in Chinese Medicine, Chinese Materia Medica, Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine, and nursing, 1 professional degree for awarding doctoral degree. It has 11 first-level disciplines for awarding master degree, namely Chinese medicine, Chinese material medica, integration of Chinese and western medicine, nursing, pharmacy, biology, basic medicine, clinical medicine, public management, history of science and technology, soft engineering. It has 5 professional degree conferring fields, namely Chinese medicine, Chinese material medica, pharmacy, nursing, applied psychology. It has 3 post-doctoral research stations, namely Chinese medicine, Chinese material medica, integration of Chinese and western medicine.
NJUCM insists on the students as the center of education, and strengthens morality education, striving to push forward the training mode for Excellent Doctor (the nine-year bachelor to doctor degree program, the 5+3 overall training program for clinical physician), for Excellent Scientist (the “4+5” bachelor to doctor degree program of Chinese materia medica), for Excellent Engineer ( the bachelor to master degree program of Chinese materia medica and pharmacy). The School received one second-prize for Graduate Education Achievement Award of The Chinese Society of Academic Degrees and Graduate Education, one first-prize and one second-prize for achievements in the reform of development mode for graduates in Jiangsu Province. The School was awarded the Excellence Unit for postgraduate enrolment and management.

Scholarships and Grants
Gradate School is responsible for matters concerning scholarships and grants of graduates studying in Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine.
The university has established 1 national-level scholarships programs, 1 university-level scholarships programs, and 9 grant programs. With a total of more than 32 million yuan each year, The highest scholarship reaches 30,000 yuan and the highest grant reaches 10,000 yuan.
In addition, the university has taken many measures to help graduate students finish their studies, such as the National Student Loan (up to 10,000 yuan per year) for needy students.
