National Key Lab of TCM Quality and Efficacy (Cultivation) was established in December 2016 upon the approval of Department of Education of Jiangsu Province. The lab integrates the relevant features and bases of the four key labs of Jiangsu Province including “prescription research”, “processing of Chinese Materia Medica”, “appraisal of efficiency and safety” and “high-tech research of prescription”, aims at the frontier quality and efficiency research of Chinese Materia Medica and the national and local major demand, and endeavors to carry out multidisciplinary integrated research targeted at promoting the scientific and technological connotation of TCM theory and exploring new-drug creation source molecules. The lab now has 51 regular researchers, more than 80% of whom hold senior technical titles. The lab has 5 winners of The National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 1 specially-appointed professor of Changjiang Scholars Award Plan, 1 national talent of “National Millions of Talents Program”, 1 team of Scientific and Technological Innovation of Jiangsu Province, 4 selectees of New Century Excellent Talent Plan of Ministry of Education, 1 winner of National Fund for Excellent Youths and 8 Specially-appointed Professors of Jiangsu Province. Since January 2017, the lab has won 1 first prize of Scientific and Technological Progress Award of Ministry of Education, 2 members of the lab have been selected into the list of Most Cited Chinese Researchers in 2016, the lab has published 33 SCI papers (9 of which have obtained more than 6 points of impact factor), has won 12 authorized invention patents, and 1 new-drug clinical approval.

Research directions: (1) research of the material basis and decisive factors of quality of Chinese Materia Medica; (2) research of the potential action target and molecule mechanism of efficacy of Chinese Materia Medica; (3) chemicobiological research based on natural probe molecules; (4) research of new-drug innovation based on special efficacy of Chinese Materia Medica.
