Professor Tan Renxiang
 

Professor Tan Renxiang
Vice President

Professor Tan Renxiang was appointed Vice President of NJUCM in August 2016.
He was previously Associate Vice-President of Nanjing University (since 2002). He was Acting Dean of the Medical School at Nanjing University from 2006 to 2007, and had been the Director of Research Institute of Functional Biomolecular Science from 2000. He served as Vice Dean of the School of Life Science from 1999 to 2002.
Following his PhD training under Prof. F. Bohlmann, Institute of Organic Chemistry at Technical University of Berlin, Germany, Prof. Tan rose through the academic ranks to full professorship in Nanjing University in 1994. He was a Visiting Scientist with Prof. K. Hostettmann at the Institute of Pharmacognosy and Phytochemistry, University of Lausanne, Switzerland from Jan 1995 to Nov 1995. From Mar 2001 to Nov 2001 and from June 2003 to Nov 2003, he was a Visiting Scientist with Prof. W. Fenical at Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego, USA. Prof. Tan’s research focuses upon natural products, including the discovery methods, structural analysis, functional identification and biosynthetic pathway in novel molecules from plants and microbes, having published more than 300 papers in a broad range of journals such as Nat. Commun., Proc. Natl. Acad. Sci. USA, J. Am. Chem. Soc., Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Nat. Prod. Rep., Chem. Rev., et. al. He had sustained research funding from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholar in 1997. He was awarded the Specially Appointed Professor in the Chang Jiang Scholar Program of the Ministry of Education in 1999.
Prof. Tan currently serves as a Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry, a member of Expert Advisory Committee of National Natural Science Foundation of China, a member to the tenth Chinese Pharmacopoeia Commission.
