School of Basic Medicine
 

School of Basic Medicine was established in 1954, with its predecessor as the Basic Department of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, and then was renamed as School of Basic Medicine of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine in 1995.
Under the School, there are 8 teaching and research offices, respectively of Neijing (the Canon of Internal Medicine, which is about basic theories of TCM), Diagnostics of Chinese Medicine, Science of Prescriptions, Synopsis of Golden Chamber, Science of Seasonal Febrile Disease, Classic Literature of Chinese Medicine, History of Chinese Medicine, and a variety schools of theories, 1 teaching experiment center, 1 scientific research and experiment center, 3 research offices of distinguished professors, and 1 research office of collateral disease. The School retains 103 teaching workers, including 80 full-time teachers. Among them, the young and middle-aged teachers under 45 years old account for 58% of the total number of teachers, including 30 professors and researchers, 19 associate professors, 20 doctoral supervisors, and 15 master supervisors. The School has 2 post-doctoral research stations, and 2 doctoral programs for primary discipline, while the master and doctoral programs covering all of the disciplines offered by the School.
The School boasts 3 experts who are the recipients of the State Council’s Special Allowance, 1 National Teaching Celebrity Award, 1 member of the State Council’s Panel for Discipline Evaluation, 1 recipient of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 1 Famous Teacher at TCM university on national level, 1 Famous Teacher on provincial level, 2 recipients of National Medicine Famous Teacher Award in Jiangsu Province, 4 Renowned TCM Doctors in Jiangsu Province, 2 Specially-Appointed Professors by Universities in Jiangsu Province, 1 Double Innovation Talents in Jiangsu Province, 3 Young and Middle-aged Experts with Outstanding Contribution in Jiangsu Province, 3 selected as the candidates for the development of young and middle-aged academic leaders as part of the Cyanine Project of Jiangsu Province, 4 as the First Level Talents of Triple Three Project in Jiangsu Province, and 3 selected as recipients of funds from Six Talent Summits of Jiangsu Province.
The School has abundant resources in teaching and scientific research, and offers 6 key disciplines of TCM listed by the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (i.e. the Science of Prescriptions, Science of Seasonal Febrile Disease, Theory of Exogenous Febrile Diseases, Diagnostics of Chinese Medicine, Chinese Pharmacology in Clinical Application, and Foundations of Combined Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine), 3 key disciplines by the People’s Government of Jiangsu Province (Clinical Foundations of Chinese Medicine, Science of Prescriptions and Diagnostics of Chinese Medicine), 2 courses shared as quality resources on national level (Science of Seasonal Febrile Disease and Diagnostics of Chinese Medicine), and 4 high-quality courses of Jiangsu Province. The School has compiled the Science of Seasonal Febrile Disease, Diagnostics of Chinese Medicine, Science of Chinese Pharmacology, Clinical Chinese Pharmacy, Classic Literature of Chinese Medicine, Introduction to Traditional Chinese Medicine, and other planned and abridged textbooks. Under the School there is Level 3 Laboratory of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the key laboratory, the Work office of Meng Jingchun (a famous Chinese medicine doctor), the Work office of Wang Canhui(a famous Chinese medicine doctor), and the Work office of Yang Jin(a famous Chinese medicine doctor). The School undertakes 1 project under the National Program on Key Basic Research Project (973 Program), and 1 key research project supported by National Natural Science Foundation, and presides over nearly 30 research projects at the national and provincial levels annually. It has obtained 9 patents for invention.
The education programs of the School involves such specialties as Traditional Chinese Medicine and Clinical Medicine of Combined Chinese and Western Medicine, and covers undergraduate, post-graduate and doctoral candidates at all levels. The School undertakes the task of TCM teaching, scientific research and cultivation of clinical medicine personnel overseas all the year round.
