The Commemoration Conference of the 120th Anniversary of Mr. Cheng Dan An, i.e. The International Academic Conference of Traditional Chinese Medicine Held in Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine
    

On October 15, 2019, on the 65th anniversary of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine (NJUCM), the university held The Commemoration Conference of the 120th Anniversary of Mr. Cheng Dan An, i.e. The International Academic Conference of Traditional Chinese Medicine, with aim to inherit and develop Mr. Cheng Dan An’s educational and academic thoughts in Chinese medicine. Ms. Lu Guohui, Director of Personnel and Education, State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ms. Zhu Min, Director of Jiangsu Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mr. Liu Baoyan, Chair, World Federation of Acupuncture -Moxibustion Societies, also Chair of China Association of Acupuncture-Moxibustion, Dr. Hedi Luxenburger, President of ICMART (International Council of Medical Acupuncture and Related Techniques), Co-Chair of DAEGfA (German Medical Acupuncture Association), distinguished academics in the filed of Chinese Medicine, relatives and disciples of Mr. Cheng Dan An, faculty and staff of NJUCM, altogether over 400 representatives participated in the conference.

Mr. Cheng Dan An, the founding president of NJUCM, member of the Chinese Academy of Science, a renowned Chinese Medicine educator, acupuncturist, has made outstanding contribution to the establishment of Chinese medicine higher education mode of the P. R. China. To commemorate Mr. Cheng Dan An’s 120th anniversary, NJUCM alumni from home and aboard donated a bronze statue of Mr. Cheng Dan An to the university. 

At 9 am, on the newly established Dan An Square of Xianlin Campus, the unveiling ceremony of Mr. Cheng Dan An’s bronze statue was held. The ceremony was anchored by NJUCM alumnus and former CCTV News anchor Mr. Lang Yongchun, and had addressees of Professor Cheng Chun, Chair of NJUCM Administrative Council, and Mei Jiazhen, relative of Mr. Cheng Dan An to commemorate Mr. Cheng Dan An’s contribution to the founding of the university, the development of Chinese medicine education, the acupuncture discipline and the Chinese medicine course. Ms. Lu Guohui, Ms. Zhu Min, Professor Cheng Chun, and Ms. Mei Jiazhen jointly unveiled the bronze statue.

The opening ceremony of the commemoration conference, i.e. The International Academic Conference of Traditional Chinese Medicine was held simultaneously at Feng Sheng building, and chaired by Professor Zhang Cehua, Vice President of NJUCM. On behalf of the university, Professor Cheng Chun delivered a speech, to express gratitude to support from all levels to the university, to speak highly of Mr. Cheng Dan An’s contribution. The 92 years old Mr. Yang Zhaomin, a direct disciple of Mr. Cheng Dan An made addresses. They reviewed the Mr. Cheng Dan An’s process in rejuvenating the discipline of acupuncture and pioneering the higher education of Chinese medicine.

In her speech, Ms. Lu Guohui elaborated on Mr. Cheng Dan An’s achievement and historical standing, pointed out the significance of commemorating Mr. Cheng Dan An against the background of “Remain true to our original aspiration and keep our mission firmly in mind”, and encouraged all NJUCM members continue to contribute for the Chinese medicine construction course in the new era.
